History

This area within the Lane Cove National Park has been a camping area since at least 1968. There are records of amenities buildings being constructed in 1968 but it's believed that there was a campground or caravan park at this location previous to this date, likely dating back to the 1940s. Easts Holidays operated a lease at this site for a number of years until 1998. At that time the lease was not renewed due to multiple violations committed by Easts. National Parks and Wildlife Service (New South Wales) (part of the Department of Environment and Conservation (now Department of Environment and Climate Change (New South Wales)) is a government department dedicated to preserving the natural environment of NSW and as such took over the operation of the caravan park in 1998. Since that time the amount of tree planting, bush regeneration & habitat creation has totally transformed the look and feel of the caravan park. The Lane Cove River Tourist Park is a leading player in the field of sustainable tourism and Ecotourism. Ecotourism Australia,[1] is the peak national body for the Australian Ecotourism industry and as such is responsible for the highly respected Eco Tourism Australia program that the Tourist Park is heavily involved in.[2][3]

The Tourist Park and campground are located on the western side of Lane Cove National Park but is actually in the suburb of Macquarie Park New South Wales.==References==
